Big Opportunity: Blog Management Service for Small Business Owners
18th February 2015Are you a blog business owner, a blogger or someone who is good at building a blog, manage it, and grow it, then there is one opportunity that I predict will become big in the near future.
The opportunity comes in the form of blog management service.
What is it?
The idea is to provide a holistic blog management service for companies, big and small. But in this blog post, let’s focus providing the service to small business owners, as I personally think that this service will offer a competitive advantage for those who adopt it vs. those who don’t.
A holistic blog management service may cover – but not limited to – the following activities:
- Install a CMS (e.g. WordPress)
- Find/design and install a design
- Install necessary add-on for the CMS (e.g. WordPress plugins)
- Audit the resources required to maintain the operational of the blog (e.g. Choosing the right hosting service and keep resource consumption manageable.)
- Do on-site SEO and/or off-site SEO
- Write/prepare blog posts
- Add relevant images, slides, videos, and other content
- Structure the blog post for better-readability
- SEO-optimize the title/description/content
- Crafting headlines and content that attract read and clicks
- Blog and blog posts promotion in social media
- Engaging visitors, replying to comments
- Blog performance optimization
- Blog’s technical troubleshooting, such as page load speed, hosting resource consumption, etc.
- Offer suggestions to the small business owner on how to get better results (e.g. Valid leads coming from the blog)
- etc.
If you notice, those are actually what every blog business owner should do to grow her blog. So, it’s your competitive advantage – and a potentially lucrative opportunity – if you know how to do all of the above – and more!
Blog management service vs. blogging service
Almost all writers I know offers blogging service: They typically write blog posts and send them over to their clients. Also starting to become common today, writers who are also bloggers offer blog post writing and publishing.
With that said, a blog management service is much more complex than a blogging service. Let’s just say that blogging service is one of the many activities done in providing blog management services to clients.
Instead of focusing on the blog posts, a blog management service focus more on how to attract visitors with the blog posts and convert that visits into leads through a call to action (e.g. Contact form for ordering or requesting for more infomation.) Not only those, a blog management service provider may also manage the backend of the blog – technical troubleshooting, blog security measures, blog performance, etc.
Here’s the trend
Gary Vaynerchuk: “Everyone is a media company.”
Everyone should be able to create content that will add value to the community – and drive leads to her business. Every small business should also be a media company, regardless of your line of business.
An example:
If you are a real estate agent, creating a blog that offer tips on choosing the right property, updates on a particular area of the region that is promising, and so on helps establishing your expertise. However, this is starting to be quite common.
Here’s an alternative method – inspired by Gary Vaynerchuk’s tips: Create a blog unrelated to real estate that covers the local area’s attractions, eateries, entertainments, events and other interesting content. In between your content, you put a call-to-action, such as free consultation for those who are interested in acquiring a property in your region.
Why blog management service helps small businesses. A lot.
The role of blogs is becoming more important in attracting traffic to your company. However, not many small business owners – perhaps you are one of them – who have no idea how to go about with blog building, blogging and other stuffs.
They need someone who understand the ins and outs of running a blog, especially in term of traffic generation and brand building.
Then you enter into the mix.
You ARE a blog owner, and you know what will work and what won’t work. You know the challenge and opportunity, and you can offer what you know as intangible benefits that your client will get from you.
In short, companies – and brands – pay for your service in exchange for the potential hassle, learning curve, and trials-and-errors if they do it themselves.
A good win-win arrangement, don’t you think?
Takeaway
If you are a blog owner, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with providing consulting, blog installation, blog post writing, and other services – a la carte. But let me propose this to you: Perhaps it’s time to step up with your game, as – chances are – you might not be aware that you know much more than you think, that may be very useful for businesses and brands.
You can turn your knowledge into real income, and in exchange your expertise and experience in running a blog business add value to your clients.

Ivan: Have you seen that this kind of new hybrid of business activity is getting popular? I would like to talk about the possibilities for my domain, Americanized.org. I want to develop it into a hub for Americana stuff and content on the American sense-of-life, including lifestyle design training and an business opportunity of an independent online venture.

Thanks for dropping by. This kind of business has actually been around for some time, but it’s not that popular. I’ll contact you to discuss about the possibilities to grow Americanized.org into an authoritative, niche hub 🙂
