How to Spend Money Like a Millionaire: 3 Secrets
30th April 2015If you think millionaires spend their money like they don’t care, think again. The millionaires I know, the public figure I follow and the partners I have – most of them spend their money much wiser than people might think.
I have plenty of examples to show you, but here are three of them that can show you pretty much the secrets to living like a real millionaire:
Secret #1: Pay yourself first
Here’s an example. Let’s say that his name is John. John is a friend of my parents. In his 70’s, he travel the world with his wife 9 months out of 12. He also took his relatives – in the dozens – to go with him numerous times in the past.
So, how did he get the funds from? No, it’s not from his savings. He spend it because it was paid by others – in full. Let me explain.
He own rental properties. Plenty of them. They give him positive cash flow. Plenty of it. On recurring basis. After paying himself first (rainy days, investments, etc.) and the monthly expenses, he has enough to build a large budget to travel the world.
Secret #2: Impact others
Here’s another example. Let’s say his name is Josh. Josh is a friend of mine; we attended the same college, and I know that this guy will be a success in the future. He started a web developing business with his brother back in the college years. Right now, he runs an IT consulting that manages the IT systems of some of the largest national banks, multi-national companies and large organizations. Here’s what interesting: He involves in non-profits, putting his skills and money to impact others.
Here’s how he spend his fortune: He travel for experiences. Scuba diving. Access to a zoo’s backstage, mingling with he penguins. Visiting other countries for leisure. He drives a family car, and live in an apartment near his company HQ in the heart of the city.
Quite fancy, but not too glamorous.
Secret #3: Spend wisely
Here’s a final example. Let’s take a public figure as an example, Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary is a multi-millionaire guy with billion-dollar net worth (he owns Wine Library and Vaynermedia; he invests in Uber, Twitter, Medium, etc.) And he spend his money on experiences: Vacationing with his family, attending NBA basketball games, going on a trip with his friends, and so on.
Again not too fancy, though. What gives?
Real millionaires know they earn their money with blood and tears
That’s right. No fast cars. No million-dollar mansion. No partying all night. Not that they can’t afford that, it’s just they are not wired to do so.
They just what most people do – but instead of spending it on credit cards, these millionaires spend it on something that they have – just a little portion of it.
They know how hard they work to be in the level that they are right now.
Mr. John I mentioned above? He was dirt poor. Went to school with my father, they shared a small bedroom because they can’t afford it. Daily meals were luxurious, and they need to be creative in order to get through the day.
My friend Josh I mentioned above? He’s a guy next door from a good family, but not a well-off one.
Gary Vaynerchuk? He started out by bagging ice for his father liquor store.
You see, they earn their keep. They keep both of their feet grounded. They have to. They know how hard the hustle is, and they know that wasting money on their hustles is a crime.
So, if you are dreaming of getting rich, driving fast cars, dating celebrities, retiring to the beach and so on – stop dreaming and wake up. Ready yourself for the harsh reality: You need to work hard. And fast. Because you are not on this race on your own: There are competitors who are ready to take your reward if you are not fast enough.
So, what’s good being a millionaire if you can’t drive fast cars, you asked. Here’s one good answer: As a millionaire who knows how to spend your money wisely, you will have a great sense of security, knowing that you have build enough padding to fall upon. Moreover, you now know that you have the money to spend on other people: Invest in their personal development, startups, and so on – in an attempt to make the world a better place, one step at a time.
Are you ready to spend like a millionaire? Work hard to be one, use your millions wisely, impact others and enjoy your life in the process.
