Want to Build a Successful Blog Business? Change your Mindset
3rd February 2015People think that online entrepreneurship is all about the techniques: Web developing, SEO, link building, social media marketing, etc. Those are not wrong things to do, but those are just one part of the story. Another part of the story is all about you.
In this blog post, I attempt to instill new way of thinking that I have learned so far running blogs and online magazines – mainly in business niche – into your mind, so that you will have a change in your mindset – and hopefully – a change in your blog business’ growth – for the better.
Starting is easy. Growing is tough.
You see, it’s much easier to start a blog today. Tools and information are everywhere.
If you want some technical answers, just google for them. You’ll find many, many 101 on how to build a blog; on how to monetize your business blog; on how to grow your blog’s traffic and subscriber counts. There are also tools that can help speeding things up for you – such as using content marketing services, social media marketing services, SEO services, SEO analytics, blog post title generator, and so on.
I learn from my entrepreneurial career that starting up is easy. What’s challenging is growing your blog. You can install great design, add great content, and work on your on-site SEO and stuff. Those are cool, but the real challenge is mainly on these issues: Traffic, revenue, and branding – to name a few.
Again, growing your blog – as a business – is challenging. And at times, you need to wait for a year or two before you start seeing results.
My main business blog started making real money after 12 months of daily blogging and marketing. And due to the difficulties in growing my blog, I wanted to give up. Several times. I was fortunate that I decided to carry on.
Listen – information and tools are out there. But what’s more important is you – your blog business’ founder and CEO. Your success and failure begin with you and your decision.
Success begins with your mind
Did you know that success is 85 percent attitude and 15 percent facts/figures? I understand that my small successes start with a change of mindset; a change in my attitude.
You see, I’m not a particularly bright person; I’m introvert; I wasn’t a positive person; I wasn’t a fighter or warrior – in both personal and business; I was lack of ambition.
But today, I’m different. I know I have a family to support, and if I don’t change, I can’t be a breadwinner – and that’s suck. Big time. I know I have a dream, and if I don’t at least try to make it comes true, I suck. Big time.
Through series of ups and downs in life, I finally learn that if I want success, I have no choice but becoming someone who is capable of achieving that.
The good news is, it can be learned.
How to change your mindset for success
The key #1: Define your motive. Why do you want to start a business blog? Is your blog beneficial for others? Do you want to help others to better-understand in the topics you are blogging about? Do you want to help others to be as successful as you?
The key #2: Change your words. Change your “I can’t do this” into “I can do this.” Change your “I just want to give up” into “I just want to give it a try.” Change your “I don’t know” into “How to know?”
The key #3: Continuous learning. Watch motivational videos. Learn from real experts. Master the skills relevant to your business blogging or any other ventures you have in mind.
Find the right motive, acquire a new mindset
So, I start my blogs with the right motive. And as I’m changing my words, I’m becoming a positive person; I am becoming someone with a can-do attitude; I am becoming a fighter or warrior – at least in business; I am becoming an avid learner; I am still introvert, but I can overcome that by focusing on my strengths.
Here’s a new mindset I recommend for you:
- I want to add value to the web with what I know. The Internet, especially social media, is too noisy. I want to give my readers what they want to know about a particular topic of interest.
- I start my blog not only because I want to make money online. Money comes with quality, and quality comes with intent. Review #1 above.
- I have a plan for my business, and if my blog doesn’t go according to my plan, I need to revise my plan. Fail fast and make sure you learn from your failure.
- I can make $X/month for my blog in the first 3 months. $Y/month in a year. $Z/month in 3 years. I just need to find how to do it.
- Results come from hustle – so I need to grind and forget all the nonsense of “get rich quick and easy.”
Make sure you write down your goals and plans. Having those in writing matters. A lot.
Takeaway
You see, I believe that people can change; I believe that every one of us is blessed with the ability to change the path of our life’s journey – including entrepreneurial journey. But you and I need to count our blessings, because chances are, you and I can lose them. With that said, make sure you take action. Blessed with choices? Grab one and turn them into an opportunity to help others – and yourself.
Remember, your competitors are out there. The competition in business and blogging niche is tough, I know. But there are always things you can do better than your competitors – even the big guys. Find those things, and capitalize on them.
Change your words, keep on learning, and work hard.
